Product Manager - Fire Suppression

What will you do

The Product Manager is responsible for the overall growth of the assigned product segments under Fire Suppression Special Hazards Pre-Engineered Systems (Restaurant and Vehicle.) Major responsibilities include developing multi-generational product plans and road maps on a global basis, defining individual product line strategies, and being responsible for the product life cycle from idea inception to new product introduction through obsolescence. This individual will also oversee cost-out / value engineering initiatives, gather customer and market insights, and assist with marketing commercialization programs.

Significant global, cross functional interaction and project management leadership is required across the organization with global sales, engineering, manufacturing, sourcing and other functions. This position reports to the Restaurant Product Manager and will be based in Europe and work from either a JCI company office or remotely.

How you will do it

Product Market Insight:

  • Assesses the market, product trends & voice of customer information
  • Conducts sizing & segmentation of markets
  • Prioritizes product benchmarking requirements
  • Identifies articulated and unarticulated customer needs from VOC insights, quality data, and various market data
  • Conducts regular competitive & regulatory research and analysis on product line

Product Strategy:

  • Develops the product line strategy based on all relevant data and insights
  • Is responsible for the development of the multi-generational single product line strategy and defines the critical growth opportunities
  • Determines the value propositions of individual products in the product line
  • Determines product positioning and sets pricing guidelines
  • Communicates the strategy and gains alignment with the greater organization
  • Accountable for measuring and reporting strategy execution


  • Defines the product line roadmap
  • Develops new product concepts in existing and new markets / channels buy following a multi-stage-gate process and by running multi-stakeholder development teams
  • Defines product requirements including cost, quality and timing targets
  • Delivers detailed business cases for new products / enhancements
  • Drives conceptualization, develops concepts, establishes and handles priorities


  • Supports the development of the Product Marketing Plan through the definition of product, specifications and claims, value propositions, and target customer segments;
  • Executes successful channel strategies that deliver growth
  • Formulates pricing strategies and tactics that increase margin
  • Acts as SME (Subject Matter Expert) for tradeshows, customer events, industry & regulatory associations

Lifecycle Management:

  • Leads cross functional team through product lifecycle process including introductions, product line analysis, value assessment and SKU rationalization activities
  • Understands product portfolio at a global / regional level (SKUs, pricing, profitability, sales by customer / channel, quality, warranty)
  • Analyze sales trends per market and communicate with sales and end customers on market and product updates
  • Interface with end-user, marketing, sales, engineering and operations

Qualifications needed

What we look for:


  • Degree in business, marketing or an engineering field
  •  5 - 7 years business experience in product development role
  • Product management and product development in a phased-gate process experience
  • Comfort and experience in interacting with external customers
  • Experience working in a matrix business structure and working collaboratively with multiple functions on joint programs
  • Excellent written & verbal English communication skills
  • Strong financial and general business acumen
  • Ability to travel to customer sites 10-20% of time.


  • Previous experience within a fire protection, construction or infrastructure related industry;
  • MBA a plus
  • Experience with project management leadership with a focus on strategy
  • Proven ability to drive results via disciplined execution amidst organizational ambiguity
  • Multiple languages skills
